Why Luoyang for a foreign-invested company
Luoyang sits in western Henan and has long been an industrial base rather than a services hub. Its economy is anchored in equipment manufacturing, advanced materials, bearings, agricultural machinery, petrochemicals and new energy, with a growing tourism and cultural sector built around its archaeological sites. For a foreign founder, that mix matters: if your business sells into manufacturing supply chains, industrial services, or tourism-related ventures, Luoyang gives you proximity to customers and suppliers rather than distance from them.
Costs are generally lower than in Shanghai, Shenzhen or Beijing, which affects office rent, salaries and the registered capital you may realistically need to operate. Henan also has a large labor pool and a dense rail and highway network, with Luoyang connected to Zhengzhou (the provincial capital and its airport) by high-speed rail.
- Industrial fit: manufacturing, materials, machinery, industrial equipment and related services.
- Sector openness: the national negative list determines which activities foreign investors may or may not undertake; check your specific activity before committing.
- Supplier access: Henan's industrial clusters make sourcing and subcontracting easier to manage locally.
- Cost profile: generally more moderate than tier-one cities.
Luoyang is not the right base for every business. Consumer brands, finance and international professional services cluster in larger cities. Be honest about whether your customers are actually in Henan.
